Which pilates class is right for you?

Whatever your experience of pilates and your own fitness level, there is a Bodies Under Construction session format to suit your needs:

Initial Session
This initial session, incorporates a full pilates assessment and postural analysis followed by a pilates key elements session. This session will be tailored to your needs. If you are a beginner you will be introduced to matwork and equipment based exercises, and will receive some introductory handouts so that you can practice the key principles and basic matwork exercises at home.

This session is compulsory for all participants wanting to enter one of our programmes. It allows us to adequately assess each participant and not only aids safety and injury prevention but allows us to tailor the exercises to individual needs.

One-to-One Starter Package
This package includes an initial one-to-one session, which incorporates a full pilates assessment and postural analysis followed by a pilates key elements session. You will be introduced to matwork and equipment based exercises, and will receive some introductory handouts, so that you can practice the key principles and basic matwork exercises at home. Included in this package is a free home starter kit*. This will be followed by four subsequent 55-min one-to-one sessions, which are tailored to suit your requirements. The instructor may also include other equipment like the Cadillac, Barrel and Chair.

This package would enable you to either continue with private sessions or in discussion with your instructor progress to a group session on the timetable.

One-to-One Physio Rehab Starter Package
This package includes an initial one-to-one session, conducted by a Physiotherapist with a special interest in pilates, which incorporates a full physical assessment including joint range, muscle function and length and movement dissociation. This will be followed by a pilates key elements session. You will be introduced to matwork and equipment-based exercises and will receive some introductory handouts, so that you can practice the key principles and basic matwork exercises at home. Included in this package is a free home starter kit*.

This will be followed by four subsequent 55-min one-to-one physio rehab sessions, which are tailored to suit your requirements and will be more specific to your rehab needs. The instructor may also include other equipment like the Cadillac, Barrel and Chair if appropriate.

This package would enable you to either continue with one-to-one sessions or, in discussion with your instructor, progress to a group session on the timetable.

Foundation Matwork Package
In discussion with your instructor this matwork package is for beginners and is run over 5 weeks, based on demand. Participants will learn the basic matwork repertoire. Emphasis will be placed on the key elements and participants will receive printed handouts to continue practice at home in between sessions. Participants will be encouraged to purchase a home starter kit to allow them to effectively practice at home.

Foundation Reformer Package
In discussion with your instructor this reformer package is for beginners and is run over 5 weeks, based on demand. Participants will learn the basic reformer repertoire. Emphasis will be placed on the key elements whilst performing the exercises in a safe and effective manner. Reformer setup and safety precautions will be covered.

Matwork Group
In discussion with your instructor these sessions are suited for participants who have completed the Foundation Matwork Package or at the discretion of your instructor. These matwork sessions have a maximum of 4 participants to allow you to work closely with a professional and experienced instructor. Progression of the foundation exercises will be taught and other small equipment will be incorporated (balls, magic circles, foam rollers, arc barrels etc) to increase difficulty and challenge to participants.

Reformer Group
In discussion with your instructor these sessions are suited for participants who have completed the Foundation Reformer Package or at the discretion of your instructor. Group reformer sessions have a maximum of 4 participants. Higher-level exercises will be performed in these sessions following a programme decided by the instructor.

Mixed Equipment Group
This is a supervised mixed equipment class where you follow your own tailored programme. Individuals need to complete at least 5 private sessions before entering this group, to adequately allow you to follow a program tailored to your needs. In addition to reformer work, other equipment will be included, like the contour barrel, ladder barrel, chair and Cadillac.

Pre-natal and Post-natal Group
These sessions are intimate matwork classes with a maximum of 4 people using small pilates equipment, (arc barrels, bands, light weighted balls, magic circles, blocks and soft balls). The pre-natal sessions concentrates on body toning (legs, bottoms and arms), postural exercises, pelvic floor exercises, relaxation and breathing. The post-natal sessions include all of the above, but with the addition of higher-level abdominal exercises. Speciality Group
From time to time other speciality group classes will be added into the timetable.  Pilates for Fitness, Performance, Golf, Tennis, Ski conditioning etc. Exercises will consist of a mixture of matwork, reformer and other small pilates equipment exercises.

One-to-One Session
This is the principal means of learning the pilates method. It is a one-on-one session that will lead you through a series of exercises. This way, the instructor is best able to tailor and focus the session to your goals and needs. Matwork exercises and all pilates equipment will be utilised including the combo chair, Cadillac, reformer, and contour step barrel.

One-to-One Physio Rehab Session
This is a modified pilates session, conducted by a Physiotherapist with a special interest in pilates.  These sessions will be tailored to suit your requirements and will be more specific to your rehab needs. The instructor may also include other equipment like the Cadillac, Barrel and Chair if appropriate.

One-to-one Pre-natal and Post-natal Session
This is a one-on-one session that will lead you through a series of exercises. The instructor is best able to tailor and focus the session to your goals and needs relating to your pregnancy. Matwork exercises and all pilates equipment will be utilised including the combo chair, Cadillac, reformer, and contour step barrel.

Duet Session (semi-private)
At least 5 private sessions is a pre-requisite to the duet session. Perfect if you want to exercise with your partner or a friend or we could choose someone for you to work with. Both parties must be of a similar level. Duets are arranged by the instructor and clients involved.
